Sculptures In Pewter was created in 1997 as a hobby business in Regina, Saskatchewan. In 2002, the owners, David and Marilyn Goldsmith, decided to make a move to the area around Radium Hot Springs in British Columbia. (For Information on Radium Hot Springs, please visit www.rhs.bc.ca) This decision to move was accompanied by a decision to try to grow Sculptures In Pewter from a hobby into a real business.

David has over fifteen years experience in making and marketing artwork across western Canada, as he has practiced the art of scrimshaw since 1987. His scrimshaw, done on old piano keys and 10,000 year old woolly mammoth tusk, is available at various galleries and shops across the west, including Canada House in Banff and Our Native Land in Jasper. Marilyn has been an entrepreneur and store owner for the past six years, having created and operated Marilyn's Handmade Gifts To Go, an art and craft specialty shop, in the Regina airport. These combined backgrounds have contributed to the rising success of Sculptures In Pewter, as David and Marilyn bring an understanding of quality, marketability and taste to the business. And the pieces are priced to be within reach of almost anyone.

From 1997 to 2001, this little pewter business was basically as described above, a hobby. The images were sold through ten or twelve stores, mostly in the area of southern Saskatchewan. We knew that our pewter images were popular and enjoyed by almost everyone who saw them. They sold well in our store. We wanted to make a move to live in the mountains. We needed to make a decision. In September, 2002, we made the move to the Radium Hot Springs area. We attended the Edmonton, Toronto and Vancouver Gift Shows, and have seen the popularity of Sculptures In Pewter surpass even our own expectations. We now sell these images through more than sixty stores and galleries in western Canada alone, and are available across Canada from Labrador to Vancouver Island.
